Christina, Johnny & baby Elizabeth

The best decision I probably made during my pregnancy was to appoint Jo and Emily as my independent midwives post birth. Considering how challenging the year was with Covid and not being close to our families, I had a need for consistent and personal care at home, especially the first week after we returned from the hospital. I had a really challenging birth experience, and Emily was a rock to both me and my husband during this time. I really don’t know what we would have done without her! My biggest regret looking back at everything is probably that I …

Agatha, Brad and baby Sophia

I came across Emily and Jo completely accidently when I was looking for help due to urinary retention in the first trimester of my pregnancy. Emily answered her mobile at 6am when I was calling frantically to get some help as all private clinics were closed due to Covid. She then advised us what to do. The meeting was a God’s send and thanks to the services the two ladies provided, mine and my husband’s experience of the pregnancy, the birth and the postpartum recovery, was as wonderful as possible given our circumstances. I suffered from severe tokophobia and decided …

Jo, Lewis and baby Arlo

It’s been one year since our baby boy, Arlo, joined our family and we have celebrated the loveliest lockdown birthday with his two big sisters. We consider ourselves to be so fortunate to have been fully supported by Emily throughout all three of our birth journeys; the first two through the NHS and Arlo through Riverside Midwives. When people talk about independent midwives being an investment, what comes to mind initially is an investment throughout pregnancy and the post birth period but I would also add that this investment continues to pay off way beyond this. Having a trusted and …

Gema, Martin and Baby Rose

My wife and I are older parents and recently had our first child using the services of Riverside Midwives as we wanted to make sure that we had the right support and continuity of care – not least because we were pregnant throughout the COVID pandemic. Emily and Jo were fantastic throughout – providing constant support and information for us to make informed decisions and there have been many times throughout the pregnancy that we were grateful to have retained their services, not least when we had to change our plans at the eleventh hour. There isn’t a price you …

Emily, Jimmy and baby Olivia

In truth I find it hard to articulate what Emily’s care has meant to us. Never in my life have I experienced or even witnessed such nurturing, intuitive and dedicated care. Pre-pregnancy, I don’t know that I had thought too hard about the type of midwife led care I would hope for or the importance of continuity but suddenly there I was, 33 weeks pregnant and feeling pretty hopeless about the antenatal care I had thus far received. It was then that I put my research hat on and contacted Riverside Midwives. I was a low risk pregnancy, planning for …

Poornima

I was a very anxious mother to be and having Joanna as my midwife was a great comfort. She very patiently answered my billion questions. She was always available when I needed to talk, ask her advice, and needed her to come to hospital with me as soon as my waters broke. She stayed with me for over 24 hours in hospital as I was being induced and during my c-section. Even after returning from the hospital she went beyond the call of duty by distracting a terrified me by singing while my husband gave me the Fragmin injection. She …

Elizabeth, Mark, Max and Alexander

Elizabeth, Mark, Max and Alexander

Alexander’s birth was a wonderful experience, way beyond our highest hopes and it was the expertise and incredible support of Riverside Midwives that made it possible. We have had such a calm and enjoyable start to life as a family of four, thanks to their care. When I was pregnant for the second time, we were both worried about the upcoming birth, especially with our 5 year old Max to think about too. Aged 40, I was being labelled “high risk” with hospital protocols around induction putting on pressure to rethink my hopes for birth. Emily had been an NHS …

Suzy, Dale and baby Holly

Suzy I think it’s common for every mum-to-be to Google every step of her pregnancy. However, when it came to feeling confident and comfortable about my labour path when asked by the midwife at my antenatal appointments, I felt overwhelmed and honestly pretty ignorant about what my options really were. What I did know is that I’ve always felt terrified of hospitals, we were just about to move home to a new area and that I wanted as natural a birth as possible. I had also heard that a water birth was a great way to achieve a calm and …

Wendy and baby Sebastian

Emily was my midwife for the birth of my 3rd child. It was without a doubt, the best experience I have had with regards to support and care from a midwife. From the start, Emily was completely supportive of my choices. She made sure that I understood the risks and benefits but I never felt like she was trying to sway me, only inform. I received one-to-one care from her and she was an excellent listener when I was having a wobble and really helped me to keep focused on what was important. She is very knowledgeable and was very …

Louise, Paul, Edison and baby Ada

Louise I first met Jo at a particularly low point in my first pregnancy, I was struggling as I desperately wanted a home birth and came up against a few obstacles with the NHS. I must point out I am a big fan of the NHS, but sadly on this particular occasion, due to constraints on midwives, I wasn’t given the care and attention I should have been given. At around 32 weeks I was fortunate enough to have an antenatal appointment with Jo, I walked in utterly deflated and she instantly sensed my frustration and just “got” how and …
